Threads Keeps Us Hanging

After the spectacular debut of its Twitter challenger, Threads, Meta is continuing to move the needle. One week and more than 100 million downloads later, the platform has already dethroned ChatGPT as the fastest-growing app of all time. Here’s what else we’ve learned:

  • Threads doesn’t yet support keyword searches or advertisements.
  • Although you can deactivate your Threads account, there’s currently no way to delete it without also eliminating your connected IG account. (Meta says this will change in the future.)
  • As with most apps, data privacy is a concern. The EU is threading lightly and Threads isn’t yet available for download there.

Threads CEO Adam Mosseri also announced the platform won’t push controversial topics. It may be an indication Threads hopes to revive simpler social media. It’s a trend we’ve seen in other recent apps like Retro, a personal photo-sharing app built by Meta alums.

As Threads continue to unravel and pique the public’s imagination, you can find updates on the platform via its Instagram account (and in The Spark!). Assess if this app is the right fit for your brand to expand your reach.

TL;DR: Users are hanging onto Threads’ every move since its debut last week, and new information about the app shows it has strong potential as a Twitter competitor for the long haul.

Algorithmic Alphabet Soup

Lately, AI has been changing the game. SEO has long been a marketer’s best friend, and now the new tech is impacting that too. Here are some of the ways AI is making a splash with SEO.

Keyword Research

According to SEO company Moz, nearly two-thirds of marketers that use AI-driven solutions for keyword research have seen an increase in organic traffic and search ranks.

Content Creation and Optimization

AI enables marketers to find popular subjects and preferred formats as well as get recommended headlines and meta descriptions. Startup SpeedyBrands uses generative AI to create SEO-optimized content. As the AI revolution continues, we anticipate we’ll see more tools that combine AI and SEO. AI helps brands generate more content faster, which also means increased SEO competition.

Link-Building

At the same time, Google is encouraging more quality control on content, urging creators to ensure their material demonstrates qualities of E-E-A-T (expertise, experience, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness) to rank higher — whether it’s AI-generated or not. One way AI can increase content’s E-E-A-T is through link-building. AI tools can analyze links and find high-quality sources for you. According to SEMrush, the use of AI helped 64% of marketers improve their link-building efforts.

Think about how you can leverage AI to improve your SEO strategy. But remember at the end of the day, quality content showcasing expert thought leadership will always rise to the top.

TL;DR: As AI revolutionizes marketing, use it strategically to level up your SEO strategy.

A Mix of I Do and Who Did It

After every episode of the “The Afterparty,” the audience has one pressing question: Who’s the killer?

Gearing up for the premiere of its second season this week, the Apple TV+ murder mystery comedy did the usual marketing — a trailer, targeted social media ads … and something a little less expected: a wedding site. The fictitious landing page is dedicated to newlywed characters on the show Grace and Edgar and features hilarious descriptions of the wedding party and festivities.

But where things get really interesting, especially for content marketers, is the registry page. Here visitors can join the mystery by guessing the flower that symbolizes their love. Yes — there is a correct answer. Uncover it and you’ll move on to the next stage. Where is it headed? No one knows, but they sure are talking about it. The puzzling content has already inspired conversations and collaborations (teamwork makes the dream work) on Twitter and Reddit as fans try to solve the mystery.

The faux wedding site is an example of a creative way to get your audience invested. Interactive content like a quiz, game, or contest is a smart way to create hype around your brand and keep your audience coming back for more.

TL;DR: Comedic murder mystery series “The Afterparty” launches a fake interactive site to build anticipation for its Season 2 premiere.
